Final Blog Post

How did you manage all the work? Was it what you expected? What surprised you about college? How did you make friends? What study tips helped you the most? What college services did you use, and how did they help you? What about the INDIS program worked for you and what did not? What other classes did you take, and how did you succeed, or not? What would you do differently? I think overall I had to many classes and I could’ve done more online rather than have them all in person. Trying to balance work and then my personal life outside of school was just to much and I definitely could’ve avoided the levels of stress and conflict I had this semester. This definitely was what I expected, everyone told me that college is difficult and having to balance your personal life and whatever other side hobbies you have, it’s  a lot. Definitely what I expected but just didn’t know how to prepare.  I think the biggest thing that surprised me about college is that I don’t have to atte...

My Career exploration

These are the new insights I’ve learned about myself during this process: These are the new things I’ve learned about my career options during this process: A possible career pathway for me is to pursue a degree/certificate in: The new insights that I had learned about this process is that when it comes to choosing a career its way more complex than just wanting to choose one thing and then thinking  it’s  an easy road to follow. There are so many different branches that spread out when it comes to choosing a career and it’s never just one specific topic there are many paths within the one you are wanting to do. Such as Engineering, there are multiple paths to take and even more within the specific ones you choose. I have learned about many ways to check information and resources on how to properly search your career and if your skills meet their requirements and what exactly your skills are. I have also been able to learn about the wages and what’s the right for living in Cal...

The Learning Process

To improve my academic performance, I’ll incorporate new strategies into note-taking, studying, and test-taking, each of which aligns with specific strengths and weaknesses I want to address. Using structured approaches and building habits will help me retain information, manage time efficiently, and minimize test anxiety. Note-Taking For note-taking, I’ll use the Cornell Method, which involves dividing the page into three sections: a large note-taking section, a small cue column for keywords or questions, and a summary section at the bottom. I’ve often struggled with organizing my notes, especially during complex lectures. The Cornell Method will help me categorize and prioritize information in a structured way. By writing questions or main ideas in the cue column, I’ll be prompted to engage with the content actively, rather than simply writing down everything verbatim. The summary section at the bottom will push me to consolidate my understanding right after the lecture, mak...

Oscars Time Management 🦆

Image
Time Wasters :        I think my biggest time wasters are when I get ahold of my phone or when I lay down and tell myself it’ll only be for a couple minutes or I’ll wake up when my timer goes off. Usually it’s a combo of all of them. I have to be careful when I lay down because I know if I get to comfortable or settled in there my whole night routine goes out the window. I also tend to watch Netflix or videos when I work for background noise, the only downside is if it’s a show I really enjoy I will get settled on it more to catch all the details. Unknown:      The reason for my scheduler being so vague is because I leave myself a lot of time in between my activities not knowing what everyone else’s looks like. My family has always planned things last minute or notifies people of an upcoming event when it’s the day of or like less than 24 hours before. I always have to make sure I have hours of breathing room but still have my planned activ...

Oscars college student experience and tutoring

Part 1: Is this different than I thought it would be? To be honest people talk about college as stressful or the greatest and happiest moments of their lives…I hate it here. There is a lot to do and it’s a blessing and a curse to be able to go to class whenever you want or do assignments whenever you want. It’s asking me not to do it you know. What am I struggling with? I find it very difficult to wake up and have the will to go to class and sit and listen to lectures and have huge work loads, basically everything I did in high school. I thought me graduating was me saying goodbye but I guess not. It’s hard to balance school, homework, work, my music life, and family/partner time. What’s missing from my college experience? I feel like movies can glorify college or any experiences really and I expected college to be more welcoming or hype. I don’t know if its because its community college so its college but on a “lower level”. I’m glad that I am not getting it all right now and then it...
